ICARO 2009 - XII Film Festival -

For 12 years, the central american film festival, Icaro, has been a pioneer in the region bringing and awarding new talents and excellent films in the region. Last Thursday I had the pleasure to attend the closure of the XII edition of the festival. Among filmmakers, actors and actresses, musicians and artists, the festival had a very alternative twist with a very cool presentation of house, dnb & hip hop by Planet fish. Estilo Quetzal fashion show release

Last Wednesday, Estilo Quetzal by designer Luis Carlos Quintana made his debut with a fashion show displaying his latest collection of accesories, bags, purses, belts and jackets with a high hand made quality, and guess what?! there was lovely Diane Bathen (here) modeling for Quintana.

Saúl E. Mendez fashion show "Guate me late"

Last week, Saúl E. Méndez( click here for past posts) presented the latest collection "Guate me late" designed by Emilio Méndez combining mayan textiles with a modern twist, as usual, Emilio displayed a very colorful palette putting on sight, the diversity of cultures Guatemala has, making guatemalan fashion very unique.
Displaying very well known faces like César Rosales ( to remember him click here) & Allan Gabriel, the show was quite entertaining for the people.

Let's wait what surprises Emilio has for us next time, till now, introducing mayan textiles to the "day on day" guatemalan street life is one of his signatures.

Tekun

A few days ago, I was chatting with this swedish friend, he asked me about Tekun Uman's legend, the k'iche prince who fought against the spanish conquers for his kingdom's freedom.
It's quite interesting to get to know our history (fascinating indeed)... there is so much to learn and a long path to find incredible stuff to get some inspiration to create... Looking for some cool visual material to complete this post for your delight, Taxi Mag came to my mind with it's issue No.10 displaying a photoshoot by Juan Brenner with a very contemporary abstraction of what Tekun Uman legend is...

Box Brotherhood

The Box lounge is one of my favorites places to hang out in the city & one of the hottest to see the trendiest people and best electronic music with live dj's. Do you remember artist/dj/designer Leke García?! (if you don´t, click here ) He is the responsible for every deco in the place.. and of course... We love them. Check his latest mural for the place (guess where I am :P )
