PIPO... THE SAND HUNTER

What if... instead of raining water, its raining black sand? you would think it's the end of the world.. but no no no...
Last thursday Pacaya volcano, did eruption and threw ashes all over Guatemala city and the south part of the country, if that would not be enough.. it was raining!
Anyway... Marianne's dog enjoyed himself chasing the sand... how lovely!

Qué pasaría si... en vez de llover agua,lloviera arena? pensarías que es el fin del mundo... pero no no no!!!
El Jueves pasado el volcan de Pacaya hizo erupción, lanzando cenizas y arena volcánica por toda la Ciudad de Guatemala y la parte sur del país, y por si fuera poco... estaba lloviendo!
Igual y el perro de Marianne se la gozó persiguiendo el sonido de la arena al caer al suelo.... que chulo!

Somehow... this exhibition reminded me of that episode where Betty (yes, Ugly Betty) went to this art show with Amanda, met these guys and ended up in a restaurant paying the bill (which they didn't thanks to Betty's brain) because the guys just went away... It's not because my friday night was like that (how sad if that would be the story) it's because when they were at the expo, they didn't had a clue about what was the exhibition, all those sculptures were meaningless and in some way... vain. So that's what my story was like at the begining... UNTIL... I had a little chat with one of the organizers and gave me a little explanation about the artshow, the concept and meaning for each piece... (you know, its not wrong if you don't understand a piece of art, you can always ask for info about it to get de idea of the artist). Santiago Tacceti & Natalia Ibáñez, are that kind of artists looking for the essence of each town, city or country they visit, they experiment with it and as a result... a piece which is the reflection of the culture they see and try to undestand, producing an interaction between the viewer and the piece. I was quite shocked when I understood what they did with simple objects they found in the guatemalan streets... in some way, I saw myself and our culture projected in their pieces...

De alguna forma... esta exhibición me recordó al episodio donde Betty (si, Ugly Betty, la serie de Sony) fué a esta exposición de arte junto a Amanda, conocieron a un par de chavos y terminaron cenando en un restaurante 5 estrellas pagando la cuenta, (lo cual no hicieron gracias al ingenio de Betty) porque los chavos las abandonaron/burlaron a media cena...
No es porque mi noche del viernes fuera así (Qué triste si fuese mi caso) sino fue porque cuando este par de mujeres estaban en la expo, no le encontraban sentido a la exposición, todas esas esculturas no tenían sentido y de alguna forma eran vacías. Así que mi historia fue así al principio... HASTA QUE... tuve una pequeña charla con uno de los chavos de UV, quien amablemente me dió una pequeña explicación sobre la expo, el concepto y el significado de cada pieza... (algunas veces no esta demás pedir información de una obra si no se entiénde, pues... para tener una mejor idea de lo que piensa el artista va...).
Santiago Taceti & Natalia Ibánez, son el tipo de artistas que busca la escencia de cada ciudad, pueblo o país que visitan, experimentan con ello y como resultado... una pieza que es el reflejo de la cultura que ven y tratan de entender, surgiendo una interacción entre el artista y el espectador. Para ser honestos, cuando entendí su punto de vista, me sentí identificado con algunas piezas que utilizaron en sus esculturas con simples objetos que encontraron en las calles de la ciudad... en alguna forma me ví y ví proyectada nuestra cultura...

Winter has just begun in this side of the tropics... that makes me happy!
I'm in the mood for some art, and have decided to look for some inspiration... as it was ment to be, Magda Angélica came to my mind, maybe because I just mentioned her in a french magazine interview that i hope they publish, haha!
anyway, I decided to share with you my good readers some of this inspiration.
I like to think she is a fine gt version of Björk... they both are so expetimental musicians...

El invierno acaba de empezar en este lado de los trópicos... oh si! eso me hace feliz!
Como tengo ganas de arte, decidí buscar inspiración... y como si fuera por pura coincidencia, Magda Angélica me vino a la mente, talvéz porque la acabo de mencionar en una entrevista para una revista francesa... la cual espero que publiquen haha!
De cualquier forma, decidí compartir con ustedes mis buenos lectores un poco de esta inspiración. Me gusta pensar que esta chava es una buena versión chapina de Björk, ambas son artistas muy experimentales...

I was quite intrigued about this photoshoot the first time I saw some photos from Eduardo's profile, then I found out it was for PHOCKYOU, a site by Cedrick Arenales, proving that there is no need to make big editorials to show good photography, as he says. Displaying models like Jonathan Landa (previous post click here), and César Rosales (more click here) the site is and eyecandy with really nice shots by Cedrick.
It's funny to think the way time changes... just 6 years ago we were stealing food from our lunches at school with Eduardo & César...

La verdad estaba algo curioso de saber más de esta sesión de fotos desde la primera vez que ví algunas fotos en el perfil de Eduardo, después... me enteré que eran para PHOCKYOU, un sitió creado por Cedrick Arenales, demostrando que no hay necesidad de grandes editoriales para hacer buena fotografía, como él dice. Mostrando modelos ya conocidos como Jonathan Landa ( click here) y César Rosales (click here) el sitio es un eyecandy con muy buenas fotos.
Es algo chistoso pensar como cambia el tiempo (uds diran si no es asi!)... apenas hace 6 años nos robabamos la comida de las loncheras en el colegio con Eduardo & César...

I remember that day.. back in 2006 (if I'm not wrong) when I heard for the first time Mariano Santolino dj'ing at The Box playing this Eric Prydz's remix Proper Education... Then... after a couple of years... we found out that our birthday was the same day!... 4 years later... he is one of the most influential djs from Guatemala and chosen to take part of The Box's project "Sounds from the underground", a selection of the finest dj's from Guatemala city. The release party: pure beats going from tech house, house, electroclash and synthpop driving all the people craaaaazy.

It was just... another successful night!

Recuérdo aquel día... en el 2006 (si no me equivoco) cuando escuché por primera vez a Mariano Santolino pinchando en The Box el remix Proper education de Eric Prydz... despues de un par de años, nos dimos cuenta que cumplíamos años el mismo día porque estabamos celebrando la misma noche en The Box (para variar...), despues de 4 años, es uno de los dj's más influyentes en la escena electrónica de Guatemala y uno de los escogidos para formar parte del proyecto de The Box Sounds from the underground, una selección de los dj's más reconocidos e influyentes de la Ciudad de Guatemala. La fiesta de lanzamiento: un festín de beats entre tech house, house, electroclash y synthpop que pusieron a toda la gente loooooooca bailando de arriba para abajo!
Fue otra noche exitosa... ooh si!
